The Hartland Rucksack is the result of slow, considered making — a blend of rugged materials, honest craftsmanship, and details chosen to earn their keep. It’s built to handle weather, wear, and the rhythm of daily use, all while settling into its own character over time. Before you head out on your first adventure together, here’s an introduction to what it’s made from and how to keep it looking its best for years to come.

The body is crafted from premium waxed cotton woven in Scotland, chosen for its natural water resistance and the beautiful patina it develops with age. It’s paired with rich vegetable-tanned pull-up leather — supple to the touch yet strong enough to endure a lifetime of use.

Every detail has purpose: solid brass fittings, highly polished zips for a smooth, soft handle, and our signature double-strap front with traditional Sam Browne fastenings that nods to classic field design. Inside, a waterproof wipe-clean liner keeps things practical, while leather bindings and zip covers bring quiet refinement to the finish.

The Hartland is as functional as it is handsome, with a padded laptop section, internal and external zip pockets, and a breathable mesh back panel for comfort. Adjustable padded straps and a luggage sleeve make it equally at home on daily commutes or longer journeys.

Available in Tan with Tobacco leather or Black, each colourway is produced in small batches of just ten pieces, ensuring that every rucksack remains as individual as its owner.

Built for the elements, made to last, and rooted in a spirit of thoughtful British craft — The Hartland Rucksack is a companion for life’s everyday adventures.

Hartland Rucksack Care Guide

Your rucksack is crafted to wander widely and age beautifully, but a touch of care will help it stay at its best for years to come.

1. Everyday Care

After each outing, give the leather a gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth. This keeps surface dust at bay and encourages the leather to develop a rich, even patina rather than a patchy one.

2. Conditioning the Leather

Every few months, apply a small amount of quality leather balm. Treat it like skincare for your bag—light, occasional, and always tested first on a hidden spot. It helps maintain suppleness and prevents the colour from dulling.

3. Weather Wisdom

A little weather adds character; a monsoon, less so. If your rucksack gets wet, allow it to dry naturally at room temperature. Please avoid radiators, airing cupboards, or other enthusiastic heat sources, as they can warp and crack the leather.

4. Cleaning Spills & Marks

If spills strike, blot (don’t rub) with a clean cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and a gentle hand. Skip the baby wipes, detergents, and multipurpose sprays—they’re far too harsh for fine leather.

5. Storage

When it’s not out exploring, let your rucksack rest somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sun. To help it keep its shape, lightly stuff it with tissue.

6. Your Cotton Dust Bag

Each rucksack arrives with a breathable cotton dust bag. Use it whenever you’re storing the bag for more than a few days. It protects the leather from dust and stray scuffs while still allowing air to circulate—no trapped moisture, no musty surprises.

7. Hardware & Fixtures

A quick polish of the metal fittings now and then will keep the hardware bright and corrosion-free. It’s a tiny effort with a very satisfying payoff.

8. Patina: The Journey Told in Colour

Over time, the leather will develop a natural sheen and deepen in tone. This patina is entirely unique to you—a record of your travels, not a flaw.
